Influenced by Lungfish, Moss Icon, Current, Vine, Universal Order of Armageddon, the Sea and Cake, Shudder To Think, and everyone in the 1990’s Michigan hardcore scene. Cheap Trick was in there as well, even if it was on the AM/FM clock radio wake up alarm that blared over airwaves dreams.
There was truly a belief in the future expressed through music. My Own Pine Box music was the outcome of lives made possible through artistic expression of a love and respect for our natural world. These songs contain mountains, they have peaks and valleys, plateaus with rolling fields of growth. Succor and indemnity. The place where no modern man can hide no more. A criticism for the critical.
At a time in the DIY music scene when bands were exploding with fires for exploration, My Own Pine Box dipped into the well of inspiration from what had already become and pushed that into a drive for finding ourselves in friendships where true expression could be released through the absolute feeling of playing music together that was fun and important all at once.
It never mattered the basements, clubs, college rec rooms, warehouses, or living rooms that were home for our shows. What mattered most, and continues to matter most to this day, is that tenuous thread that keeps us all together. That we can live, feel, search, and find ourselves connected to the ground, the ocean, and the sky with a love that is shared.
Love for all involved, love especially for Matthias Boecker and thirtysomething records for stoking the fire.
Beautiful package, heavy stock. It's obvious Council loves what they do. If you like Broken Hearts Are Blue, get this. The purplish vinyl is gorgeous and heavyweight. paul pearson
This band can do wrong since 1999's (?) The Truth About Love, which will always hold a special place in my heart. This new record both eschews and builds on the aesthetics of that now classic record with bombastic drum fills and the unique brassy timbre of the singer's voice. John Isaacson
